Celebrating Healthy Communities and Happy & Healthy Places

On June 2, 2012, the Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida will launch the inaugural Community First Credit Union Hale & Hearty 7K-RIVERSIDE/AVONDALE. The proceeds from this race will assist the Health Planning Council to cover the expenses associated with its annual regional health care utilization studies and to expand the features of its health-related quality of life indicator dashboard entitled Northeast Florida Counts (www.neflcounts.org).

The Health Planning Council chose a 7K (4.37m) distance to separate our race from the other more common distances such as 5K and 8K races. More importantly, we chose a 7K distance to align the number 7 with the number of counties we service in the region and with the 7 qualities that describe healthy and sustainable communities. Over the next couple of years, the Health Planning Council plans to expand the Community First Credit Union Hale and Hearty 7K into at least 6 other communities within the 7 county region.

Why a 7K Race?

Community First Credit Union Hale & Hearty 7K-RIVERSIDE/AVONDALE is a celebration of the Riverside community whose leaders and residents developed a vision years ago to connect the relationships between economic, social, and political factors with health and mental well-being status. Ultimately, this forward thinking strategy improves the quality of a healthy life of its residents.

The Community First Credit Union Hale & Hearty 7K-RIVERSIDE/AVONDALE will finish at the Riverside Arts Market under the Fuller Warren Bridge. 

Riverside has gained national and international recognition as a great place to live. With its distinctive mix of history, culture, character and community, the neighborhood exemplifies gracious urban living. In 2010, Riverside was honored by the American Planning Association (APA) as one of the country’s 10 Great Neighborhoods under the APA’s Great Places in America program. Riverside is the first neighborhood in Florida to receive this prestigious national recognition.

Join us on June 2, 2012 at 8am for the Community First Hale & Hearty 7K. Don’t feel up to running? That’s okay. Walking is welcome! Immediately following the race, the 1 Mile Fun Run will begin for families with children under the age of 13.
